An Elmer Keith classic.

As you can see this book is no longer in print. If you like six-guns, .44 magnums, hunting in Northern America and Africa, and shooting in general, get a copy of this book. I hope some one re-publishes it. It is worth $53 bucks and more, easy. This book includes stories from Keith's early life, his gun experiments before and after WWII, and his service at the Ogden Arsenal in WWII. Many good hunting stories, and some showdowns with some bad guys. Keith talks about the developement of the .357 Magnum, .44 Magnum, .41 Magnum, and many rifle rounds. He is blunt and plain spoken and controversial, even now some 20 years after his death. He wrote for most of the gun mags from the 30's to the 80's. He is considered the Dean of Gun Writers and was the first recepient of the Handgunner of the Year Award. Probably the most influential gun writer that ever lived.

A Legend Among Handgunners

A much better buy that I could have ever expected. I was expecting a copy to cost much more and had no real plans to buy it. I was just looking to see how much they sold for. When I saw it for less than $50.00, I jumped on it. The description from mtnladybooks as "very good" was conservative to say the least. There was a comment that there was a "lengthy inscription by a man who camped/hunted with Elmer every year for about 8 years" was another understatement. That "man" turned out to be Bill Jordan, author of "No Second Place Winner" and another legend among handgunners.
By the way. Elmer Keith is a master storyteller. Reading his work is like sitting on the front porch listening to him tell the stories.

excellent all around

This was a much better transaction than I had expected at this price. Book was much better than described. Book story was great. Keith was indeed an outstanding individual. This book gives insight as to the difficulties of life in the earlier years as well as Keiths phenomenal abilities with guns. A must read for todays gun ownwrs.
