It is now the starting point for anyone interested in knowing more about the European Bronze Age. This is a well-written reference to the European bronze age. For someone like myself, who reads extensively but is not a professional in this field, this book provides coverage of topics with both breadth and depth. I read the introductions for perspective, and now enjoy dipping into specific sections as interest and need dictate. I wouldn't recommend trying to read it front to back. It represents the bodies of knowledge from different experts and geographical areas. I especially appreciate that no single person is attempting to do it all.

Expensive but worth ever cent

The price is a little steep but this is the definitive resource material on the subject of the European Bronze Age. If you have a serious interest in the period of history, then you should add this book to your library. Following the adage “you get what you pay for” if you can stomach the price then you won’t be disappointed with its wide ranging and well resourced content.

I am a non-expert in the area, but, this book appears to me to be the currently authoritative summary on the subject. It has many articles on a multitude of different aspects of the Bronze Age. It is broken into two parts, with the first part ordered according to aspect and the second part according to region. The readability of the different articles varies substantially according to the writer; some are quite well written, others are not, both from the point of view of facility with English and of writing style. A shortcoming of the book is that it is short on pictures; pictures exist, but many more and of better quality would be quite helpful. I am giving the book 5 stars because it appears to have no serious competition on the subject and it fulfills an important role. Note that the book is quite expensive; I was able to obtain a more reasonably priced used, but "like new" copy.
