One of the best, most practical books about intuition and how to develop yours that I've read.

One of the best, most practical books about intuition and how to develop it that I've read. I am presently two-thirds through this book, doing ALL of the exercises (without cheating :-) and can say that Laura Day does, indeed, give very practical advice and exercises. Sometimes it is not very clear what you are doing or why, but she always ties the exercises together, and also ties them to your very own, concrete questions that you are asked to write and revise early on in the book.

Stick with this. Take time. DO the exercises! They are not long, and are quite easy.

Even though I have been a shamanic practitioner for almost a decade, I was shocked by the accuracy of the information that came to me this morning in one of the exercises. I realize that I've been getting very, very good intuitive information for a long, long time. Learning how to interpret that information is where I need to focus my efforts, and this book is helping me do that in solid, concrete ways.

Be as skeptical as you like, but if you have an open mind you'll have to wonder at least a little bit about all the rest of existence that we can't see and don't understand. My belief is that anyone who can shut out the madness can begin to hear what I call whispers that we routinely push aside or ignore. Countless times the correct answer to a problem would come to me and I had no idea how that had happened. As I got older, I lost trust in these flashes of insight (when other people demanded explanations), and forced myself to plod through things step by step - usually to arrive at the exact same answer. In any case, it is an entertaining book and does pose some very interesting questions for introspection.

The Dutch scholar, Tjeu van den Berg, has written a brilliant summary of all that C.G. Jung wrote about art and the creative process that lies behind the making of art. More than that, he offers a coherent depth psychological theory of art based on Jung's writings. He is conversant with the secondary literature on this topic but does not rely on it. Rather, he bases his observations on the original writings of Jung and weaves them together into a coherent account. This work is highly readable by non-specialists and offers anyone interested in the creative process valuable insights. For the ordinary art fan and appreciator, it opens the eyes to deeper dimensions of seeing and understanding. If one is going to read only one book on this topic. this is the book to have.

excellent overview

I am fairly conversant with Jung and found this book to be a thorough overview of Jung's views on art in general. There is an analysis of abstract art in the last few chapters which are penetrating and though Jung did not like abstraction he made many penetrating comments on its relevance to the modern world. The reader will benefit if there is interest in Analytical Psychology.

Political Schizophrenia

Though it may have an ancient tradition, political schizophrenia where attack and the deploy of missiles aimed at political targets for intimidation and control is a sad use of these tactics to achieve political aims. Campaign finance reform and freedom of expression never had it so bad, and unbridled strongarm methods never had it so good. Both of which reduce the probability and the statistical possibility that individuals will exercise either their right to vote, to run, or even to participate in the political process as it was envisioned to operate. Once burned is usually enough! Rather like being run over by a train or allowing the heart to be carved out without anesthesia but remaining alive. The animosity of the political parties, and the factions within political parties intentionally or inadvertently place far too many individuals in the unfortunate position of having to opt out of political expression as a high risk activity. Voting records reflect that sad reality. Whether there are antidotes to such an abuse of power is unknown, and few have incentive to seek one, since the methods have long known to work, and work well, which is why they have been increasingly brutal in recent years. Drowning out American citizens seems to be the plan by which those who would be more powerful become so, and those who already are remain unchallenged. For the average citizen, once around this block is usually enough. Patriotism, in need is sadly not patriotism indeed. When respect is replaced by rhetoric, negligence and disregard, the entire country suffers.......and each individual becomes a man (or woman) without a country, even without moving.
